Sorry about another Comp III post, but I was about to order some since no shops had them in stock but the consensus says that they probably wouldn't hold up for anything else but DJing. Since I'll be using them for urban and trails do you think I should check something else out? My other option that I can get at the LBS would be a Kujo 2.35, nice size but quite fugly. Keep in mind that I'm 170 lb. and not the smoothest rider, which is why I wanna try a 24" rear wheel in the first place - I suck at truing wheels, and landing too I suppose Rolling Eyes Laughing .

i dunno why they wouldnt hold up to street and trails? I dont think ive ridden trails for any extended period on mine yet, but ive done countless pedal slides where the sidewalls are rubbing on ledges and they are fine. The reccomended pressure writtin on the sidewalls is way low but i have mine pretty hard and havnt had any problems

i was more worried about drops (ledges to flat concrete and trails -ladder bridges) and pinch flatting or damaging rims.

I guess this is too late, but I had a 1.75 Comp III on the rear of my bmx (20 inch) that kept getting pinch flats, even when the psi was up to 90. It was when I first got the bike so I was pretty sucky at riding (still am), but the side walls are very thin and pinch flatted easily. It also quickly got wear from grinding. It has since been replaced but I have several flat spots on my rim from when I was running it. Obviosly a 2.1 will not pinch flat as easily, but the casing is still very thin. That said, I still have the 2.1 on the front and run it around 40-50 psi with no problems. They do grip well in a lot of conditions. Also, I run the 2.35 Kugos on my mountain bike and can recommend them as a good all-around tire, although they are pretty heavy.

You'd want to pump them up hard... 60-70 psi...

I've done one 5-6' drop to flat concrete with my 1.75's... it wasn't funny, but they didn't flat...

When I still rode with HighRollers I could ride up stairs, without getting pinch-flats; no more... You'll pinch-flat a good deal to start with, but you'll also get more smooth.

It's not too late and thanks for the info. The last thing I need is a flat spot on a new rim and countless flats, so I think I'll use the Comp IIIs strictly for dirtjumping and messing around with flatland moves. Each new tube also puts me a couple dollars away from a new frame!

I rock the CompIII for just about everything.
Its the bizness for street and dirt.....so fast!
It is a thin sidewall tire, so run some serious pressure if you are pinch-flat prone.
Its got excellent traction on all dry surfaces. To hell with it in the wet, though.

what size did you order? If it's the 24x2.125 you'll be much better in terms of not flatting.

The 1.75 Comp III is tiny. And is probably more of a BMX race tire than anything. Even in the 20" size it looks like a 1.5.

On the other hand the 2.125 is a nice size and might be more along the size of a 2.3.

I've had the 2.125 on the rear of my bike and my fat ass (225 lbs) hasn't had a prob. But this tire also needs to be pumped up to 40+ psi.

Never really tried them on xc trails but they'd probably be fine. for trails (dj) and street they'll be great. Marvin Loetterle used a Comp 3 on his S&M for a while and that dude is pretty street.
