this is in relation to this post http://www.hcor.net/postp355425.html#355425

so i think im gonna get an All-Mountain bike. I truly want something all mountain. I will be riding XC during the week then I want to be able to goto Platty or Creek and ride DH. i wont be hitting huge drops, but i will definetly be hitting the 5-8'ers. I want the geometry to lean more towards the DH/freeride side.

here are some i looked at:

Intense 6.6 - I talked to a friend who said it was waaaay too steep for any type of DH.

Intense 5.5evp - I think this is too XC.

Rocky Mountain Slayer SXC 70 - not sure about this one

Giant Reign XO - looks good, dont like how the shock goes through the downtube.

Foes FXR 2:1 - looks real good...but im iffy about curnutt shocks and getting parts/rebuilds on it...also, its going to be very difficult to find someone who has one that i can test ride.

Heckler - too XC maybe

Nomad - Nice - but the hump back whale design looks weird and would hurt my balls.

Bikes I dont even want to consider - cannondale, trek, new specialized (b/c they are fugly)

so what other bikes are out there? some of you know my riding style... it hasnt changed so i need something durable!

NOW... for forks:

what forks to get? Marz or Fox? I want 20mm TA, 6" and preferable adjustable travel.

Check your PMs.

I have ridden the Heckler at Diablo, Lar's house and XC. It is very capable you just swap front ends depending on what you want to do.

Personally I'm going for the Blur LT2 for an all around do everything bike. It is big bucks though.

The Blur does look nice. The frame isnt bad at 1850msrp. Id love to see it in a small.

I also looked over specialized again... the Enduro and Pitch look decent. What is the difference between the Enduro and the Pitch?

Im liking the Giant Reign X alot too. The X1 seems decent and I dont think I can justify 1500 more for the XO.

I'm totally biased, but I'm digging my Sinister Gruitr as a trail bike. Put on a larger stroke shock and now it gets 5.5 or 6.6" of travel. Simple single pivot, short chainstays, solid bike. It's a bit FR of a build (36 lbs, many parts were used to cross over to the DH bike in case I need to cannibalize), but it still climbs well and is solid on the good old NE roots and rocks.

I'll be riding on Strong Island/Long Line Land this weekend, visiting the in law! Stillwell loop FTW!

Consider the Intense SS. It's basically the 6.6 except waaaaay more aggressive. I ride one for everything from trail riding, DH, DJs, freeride. It's super fun, geo feels spot on and you can built it up nice and light. Mine is 33.5 lbs.

here's a pic:

Throw an all-mountain hammerschmidt set up on that bitch and you'd be ready to rock XC trails all day. A Ti spring wouldn't hurt either.

Yeah, that thing above. Or a Bottlerocket. I use it for everything.

Definately check out transition bikes. They make some good stuff. I know a couple of guys who have them. I rode the blindside and it felt pretty good.

If you go for a transition, don't do anything larger than the Covert. The bottlerocket is a heavy bike, you won't want to pedal that thing around much.

I have a reign 0 that works very well for DH, the only thing it is missing is a 20mm fork, but I trail ride only with it. Took it up a lift once to see what it could do.

check out this transition: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=220282747074

im worried about what springfish said about it being heavy. however, in that price range i wont have to sell off my VT1. so ill have 2 bikes again. either way, i dont want something over 35lbs.

that intense SS is SIIIIICCKKKK. i would love to rock that bike, except i bet its crazy expensive. is it front derailluer compatible?

Mine us 37# set up for FR/DH and 35# for XC. No, I wouldn't take it on a 40 mile epic, but I ride everything around here on it.
