We have a new bus with no rainbows and hopefully take that up a bit higher to mid station. Then slickrock,Idiots Delight(trail #22) and other trails would be easy to get to from the new shuttle drop off. Possibly use the new bus as an intermediate shuttle and run the old bus to the old spot, which is close to where the pump track is going.
We want to berm up as many spots as possible and add some features we are missing such as a step up, wall ride and skinnies.
We will have Hcor Day on the 1st Saturday we are open. We will announce it here and on downhillmke.com
For the 1st year since our return to the racing scene we have no Canadian conflicts. The last 2 years the Ontario Cup and the Qeubec Cup were on the same day as our 5 K DH. They were their series finals too. So this year we expect a huge turn out for our race and some new Canadian competition as well.
Opening day is 6-20-08 and we will be open 7 days a week.
Oh, and we have a killer rental fleet. New 2008 Giant Glory 1's, Giant Trances for the lower mountain. We bought real nice 661 charger and strike helmets along with the race pads. Great rental equipment from youth to xx-l.
The rental page on our site is updated with 2008 pricing

I can't wait!
Mike, if time and dirt permits, could you build 3X more berms than you are planning? Maybe some jumps too!

We will build 20 times more than I mentioned. It will be a few years though.
It's hard to say but as we become more of a dh destination the pace on projects will really pick up. Also Whiteface will be done with their ski area expansion this summer meaning 2009 will be a huge year for features.
You will def see some improvements for the 2008 season.
Too bad we have to truck in all the dirt.

Beer supplied by the folks that run the Whiteface Mountain Bike Park (Elias and I).
Seriously, we will supply the beer and free camping at my cabin for all. We will be asking for help in May through till we open on 6-20-08.

sounds awesome. hows the local snapper in placid that time of year? most of the snowbunnies must have vacated by then.
i have an honest question though, is it hard to put features in? i mean does it have to be approved and shiz by some big wigs?

Everything has to be approved and for good reasons. Whiteface is owned by the state and they certainly must know what what's going on at their mountain. Even with the great working relationship we have built with ORDA (Olympic Regional Development Authority) they couldn't and never should give anyone just a simple okay do whatever you want.
However we have been getting everything we ask for in the last couple of years. With another year of growth, and continued help from ORDA you will notice the pace of features increase greatly.
In the past we had to do most of our trail maintenance before we opened. We just got too busy running the business during the season. Easy solution now that people are catching on to the riding we have to offer. You will notice Elias and a trail crew on the trails this year during the season.
We will soon be advertising for early seasons passes. Regular $250.00 reduced to $200.00 before 6-1-08? Or something like that. Got to get it approved 1st. Haha. But with early sales we can def. build more features.
Volunteer days and other stuff will be mentioned once official.
That time of the year the ski bunnies are replaced by super fit biker chicks!
Mostly roadies but what are you gonna do? Ladies Days is helping Whiteface look better on Saturdays though!

We can build as many dirt jumps as we want. However, if they are on a ski trail they will get plowed down at the end of the season. Remember the small jump park we had at the base 2 seasons ago?
All we need to do is locate a spot on the mountain not used for skiing and we will make dirt jumps.
In the past we didn't have enough money for dirt.
We have budgeted money this year for quality dirt. Dirt will be used for berms, pump track and jumps.

thats awesome! any foresight as to where it could be? jeeze with all that dirt your gonna have to build an A-line. i mean come on its a no brainer.,.,
if the dirt jumps get built this year the only feature i can see missing is a wall ride. oh a couple step ups would be killer but thats just pushin your luck, haha

Too early still for an A-Line.
We want to build what we are missing. Some dirt jumps, drops, skinnies, step up and a wall ride or two.

Features will be scattered on many trails. We have 27 trails and we want riders to explore more of them. We will have a new trail map this year and always spend a lot of time on on mountain signage.
The pump track will be near the shuttle bus drop off point (near trail 6 & 7).
