The trails are in great shape. Even trail # 26 up top is finally drying out after a wet couple of weeks.
All other trails are dry and in great shape.
After asking most riders what they thought about our improved signage, all signs needed to be moved or added are in place. It seems everyone is finding everything easier this year.
The small trail improvements seem to add flow to certain sections of the single-track. Rather than 1 big 3 week project this year (like last years dirt jumps) we decided to make lots of small improvements instead.
Within the next couple of weeks we plan on constructing a dual slalom course for our 0ctober race. Hopefully this will be done a month or so before the race, so all can enjoy it.
We also want to add a couple of things we don't have. Skinnies and a step up.
So that's our plan for now. Skinnies, a step up, a dual slalom course and 2 BIG RACES.
All of us at Whiteface would like to thank all of you for keeping us busy this year.
Today was great. 25 very happy customers. Many who have ridden here for the past several years that have noticed new stuff each year. We also had many vacationers (non-downhillers) and some new hard core downhillers from Syracuse, N.Y.C. & Boston areas here for the 1st time.
Thank you and hope to see ya at the face.

Mike,
What is the hotel deal with lift ticket??
What can my wife do while I DH or what can I take her to do at night??
Is that free pass for 16 runs still good and how long does it take the lift to get to the top??
Thanks.
Nat

The bike & Stay from $59.00 per person includes your lift ticket for the day worth $32.00. That rate is for weekdays. The other rates for weekends is not much more. You can even have a breakfast or a breakfast and dinner included for 1 price. See www.downhillmike.com to "Bike & Stay".
There is also a motel in Wilmington we are working with this year. Also on the site. The price on there is for a rental package. If you don't need to rent just call The Ledgreock and ask for David.
There is so much to do in Lake Placid while we are open and after we are open. Maybe 100 restaurants? An awesome Main Street with cool stores. Paddle a canoe around Mirror Lake or Placid Lake, climb an Adirondack high peak or just a short hike up Cobble Mountain (right in the village). road bike, mnt. bike, luge (street or down the luge run), horse back riding, guided rafting trip, hang out a a beach and go swimming, cliff diving (how adventurous is your wife?), water skiing, golfing (3 courses in Lake PLacid alone), drive up the highway that goes to the summit of Whiteface, Olympic attractions, shop in Montreal for the day (2 hours north), have her nails done, look for that 2nd home, Get a ride on our shuttle bus to the waterfalls and wait for you to come across the stream on your dh bike, drinking, go to a movie and much much more. www.lakeplacid.com
Anyone who can do 16 runs in a day will get a free day pass for l anytime this 2007 mountain biking season. The gondola is approx. 12 minutes. Open daily from 10:00 am till 4:00 pm.
Note. 2 runs per hour would be very hard on your body and your bike.
Also, to get 16 runs in 1 day would take nearly 3 runs per hour. 3 runs per hour = 12 minutes up and 8 minutes down. Remember James Ford's winning time was 6:36 for the 5 K DH course. You would most likely bomb down the service road for this challenge. With zero room for error you would finish at 3:20 pm and get 3 more in if you made it down right at 4:00 pm and got one last one in.
I am pretty sure there are not many people that could do 16 runs in 1 day at Whiteface in the summer.
See ya at the face

P.S. Thanks E-Thirteen for the chain guides. They rock. They hit a lot of rocks at Whiteface too!
They are also making our rentals just a great experience. We get a lot of customers during the weekdays from the area hotels, so for many they have never ridden a dh bike before. Now they are riding on Giant Faiths with E-Thirteen chain guides. We also get groups of 4 or so where 1 guy brings his x-c bike and wants to see if he can ride with his buddies. 1 run and they usually rent a dh bike.

The dual slalom course will hopefully be ready to ride by Labor Day but not for racing. The 5 K DH will be a dh race only.
The dual slalom race will be on 10-7-06 for our River Otter Classic race.
As of now their will be a collegiate series joining our dh race (9 to 10 minute estimated pro time) in October and the dual slalom may be only for collegiate racers. There will also be a collegiate x-c & short track race that weekend.
If we have enough non-collegiate racers interested we will certainly let them race dual slalom too.
It's way early for me to have more specifics than that right now. Everything should be approved and details finalized shortly.
The Bike & Stay at $59.00 per person (including lift ticket) will most likely be the best deal we can find. The registration will have to kept separate.
