any opinions? so far I've been maxxis faithful for dh, and varied on xc...got a offer on kenda stuff, but overall haven't been on them much, i tried the nevegal/blue groove, doesn't shed well enough for riding snowshoe....i'll be at snowshoe alot so a decent mud tire is big.....is it worth moving to kenda?

Rode Minnions this season at Platt,Jiminy, and Diablo and they worked just fine. But borrowed The Brute's TMX for a whole weekend at Platt(running nevegals 24") and they hooked up a bit nicer even in the wet weather/snow,,dunno mabey it was the TMX compared to my Spooky motorhead Confused

I have been on maxxis for 6 years or so and love them.
I tried out some nevigals in the beginning of 2006 and I was far from satisfied. There was just something missing, I am not sure what it is but I did not like them at all. I even gave them a second chance and rode 2 entire weekends on them.

I totally agree on Maxxis having better sidewalls, but they (Minions, at least) clog the hell up with mud...I'm trying Nevegals this season, partly because Elevate Cycles is sponsored by them. I did the last muddy/icy Platty race with a Nevegal on the font and Minion on the back, and the Nevegal did clear way better.

Check out the Swampthing 42a, I took second place in the mud three years ago at Snowshoe on them, they shed well, and grip on the muddy roots.
I haven't found a tire that works better in the mud on the East Coast.

Ya I ran them a couple of times, the thing is, the mud at platty is not that bad (compared to WV)
I usually have no problems with Minions at platty.
The great thing about swampthings is that they work incredibly well on wet roots.

Just received Minion 2.5 3C's...

cant wait to rock em on a hill somewhere!(Lift or shuttle - w/e)

As for packing up - the Minion DHF can pack up quickly, but still seems to hold a line well somehow, many run DHR's up front, or cut the secondary knobs a bit on the DHF and it drops mud gravylike.

I've had no problems with Kenda OR Maxxis tires. I personally feel that for my style and riding Kenda tires hook up ALOT better. I ran blue grooves at mt snow the year before last and found myself with ALOT more confidence. I'm not sure about running a nevegal at WV. I've never been there but from what I've seen it looks like a blue groove would shed slightly better due to its further spacing of lugs. How many of us still own the old issue of Decline where they went over tire cutting techniques?. As far as flat resistance and sidewalls go, its all about tire pressure. In my past 9 years of racing I've NEVER had a flat or sidewall failure durring a race run.

Did you run Blue Grooves front and rear?If so how did it work for ya.

Singer, Minion Dh F 2.7 on the front and minion F 2.5 on the rear. Did it at platty last year, which was muddy all year, including last snow race. Combination seems to roll faster than anything else I've tried. Can't wait to see some dry lines this year. I think i'll hook an extra back wheel with a swamp thing for the fun stuff. Kendas always hooked up for me, but they seemed to roll slow on the flat parts ? so my recommendation for everyone 30 - 35 is to roll with Kenda. Thanks for your support Salute!

Jase, I ran blue grooves front and rear on the pro/ex course at mt snow and I can honestly say that they are some of the best tires out there. For my style and preference I loved them. They gave me more confidence than I had running Maxxis.
