First you must upload your photo to the photo galleries (or whoever hosting service you might use). Then you must post the photo in a thread using the IMG tags.

I will first go over how to use the photo galleries here on Hcor since they are free. First step is to pick the appropriate album to upload your photos to or create your own album in the User Gallery album. To create your own album in the User Galleries start by clicking the User Gallery link and enter the gallery. Once in the gallery pull down the menu from the top right hand corner of the page and select "New Nested Album". This will carry you to a page that is the new album you just created. Now rename the album to give it a name other than "Untitled". Again pull down the upper right menu (you will notice this how you do ANYTHING in the gallery from the upper right menu) and choose properties. Now change the Album Title and click apply, there are also other attributes you can set for your album. Now you are ready to add photos to your album. Again pull down the upper right menu and click add photos, from here on out it is self explanitory how to upload photos. If you do now want to create your own personel album then you can select from the appropriate pre-made albums and add your photo as you did with your own personal album, minus the album creation portion of course.

Now to post the photos in a thread. Navigate to the photo you want to post and right click on the photo. Here is where one of Firefox's many advantages shine. On the right click menu there will be a "Copy Image Location", choose that. You now have in your clipboard the URL of the image. If you are using IE then right click the image and choose "Properties". Once the properties menu opens highlight the address of the image under the "Address" label and copy (CTRL-C) the location. You now have the URL in your clipboard. I highly recommend Firefox if you haven't tried it yet, you can see how it eliminated about 3 steps from this process; only one of many nice features of firefox. Now to your thread or post use the IMG tags to encompass the URL once you paste it into your post. And Voila, image in your post!

Note: When using the New Topic or Post Reply forms there are buttons at the top that says "Img" this will create the IMG tags for you. This feature not available in the quick reply form at the bottom of threads, you have to manually type the IMG tags

Example of IMG tags
[ IMG ]http://URL-of-your-image[ /IMG ]

Have to remove the spaces around IMG for it to function in a post.

What step? The uploading of the photos? Are you using the Form method? The correct file format?

Yes. Point me to it and what you want it renamed to.

Renaming and changing the "description" are two totally different things.

Renaming changes the directory name on the server, which you can't do. But you can change the description which is what it appears in the gallery, that's under properties.
