I just broke my scaphoid and i'm out for a while so I want to get into taking vids of races and just general riding. I don't know much at all about video cameras but I think I want something that will allow me to put a wide angle lens and a fisheye on down the road. I don't have a spending limit yet because I don't know the cost. So essentially I would like a decent quality camera and try to keep the cost as low as possible

Try a JVC GZ-MG 50U HDD camera. I have had 2 now (one was stollen) takes amazing video. you can switch lenses and works great with wide angle and fisheye.. And the 30gb hard drive is great for storing video you can put like 14 hours on it.

The hard drive camcorders are a cool idea but I would still go the whole miniDV route. For the amount of $ you would spend on a HD camcorder, you could spend the same amount on a miniDV cam and get better quality. I would look the route of the Panasonic GS-250 if you can find one. I have one as a 'backup' camcorder and its great. The whole GS line by Panasonic is really great too, all depends on how much you want to spend I guess. I would recommend finding a cam that has at least one CCD, but a 3 CCD cam would be even better. More companies are coming out with the 'consumer' 3CCD cams that are a lot more affordable. One thing to check as well is the filter size of the camcorder. This will affect how easy/difficult it is to find a wide angle or fisheye that will fit. Anything in the 37mm-43mm range is good since you can use step-up rings if necessary. Also, check out www.camcorderinfo.com they have TONS of reviews and comparisons between camcorders.
