Hello Friends,

The time has come for me to purchase a camera of sorts, and I think I've landed on the Canon A80.

Major selling points:
-camera costs <$300
-lenses, hoods, and filters are available: http://www.lensmateonline.com/A80adapter.htm
-it's got the G3 sensor in there, which supposedly reduces noise compared to the A75 and A85
-lots of manual adjustments if I feel like it

So, before I go and drop $275 or so, plus the cost of accessories and memory cards, is there anything else I should be looking at? On dpreview there was some talk of the S60 being comparable and possibly better (for example, it's got a 28-100 zoom instead of the A80's 38-114), but the argument seemed unclear. Also production was shifted from Japan to China a while back, and there are some claims that the assembly quality dropped dramatically.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Thanks

Jesse

months later, the A80 is out of production and i still haven't purchased a camera. the A95 came around replacing the A80. so now it's
-5 MP
-1.8" LCD
-same purple fringing issue
-canon's newfound pedophilia in demo shots
-takes all the same lenses and adapters as the aftermarket stuff made for the A80

has anybody tried the A95?

I have an A80 and I love it. I definately dont need all the modes....I basically use Manual, Auto, and the 2 ones you can set up to your likings....the 95 should be great, I'd go for it.
