You're right. There probably are worse countries than DR (probably the one attached to it) and there probably are some nicer parts of the island but what i saw from the bus ride from the thatch-roof, open-air airport to the resort in Punta Cana didnt give me a warm fuzzy feeling. They do have the nicest beaches i have ever seen though. I also got the worst food poisoning of my life down there, and that was from resort food.

thats the south coast, which def has more poverty an that drive to punta cana is long! but that area is all about the resorts, which your trapped on. basically, you went to gringo central out there bro, an sounds like the buffet got ya sick!
