f**k! this is tough. whoever thought buying a bike would be so tough.

so the transition bottle rocket is out. i got to test a small out.... shit is bigger than my racelink and heavier!! i couldnt even stand over the f**king thing. it weighed 44lbs!!! why bother with a bike that only has 5.5" of travel and weighs 44lbs and is big as f**k. they could easily lower that thing 2" and keep the same shock/travel.

ah well. so then i thought maybe id get another racelink...but i really dont want a full DH bike. it would be too much.

so my new sights are set on an 08 sx trail in small. i think that bike is probably exactly what im looking for. 7" of travel, front derailluer compatible, moderately built they weigh 35-37lbs. supposedly do everything really well.

with that.... id like to say that it sucks that HCOR is dead. i have resorted to looking at ridemonkey and pinkbike to get my DH info. i dont post there, just lurk. id never thought id have to venture over to ridemonkey again, but oh well... my tail is officially between my legs.

All Mountain?

Nomad

SX Trail

are AM with some FR blood.

6.6

Heckler (if u like SP)

Hmm... BR is more of a mini-DH/Big Hit 'SS' bike, could be built around 35 for AM maybe, but why?

Transition also has an AM frame that might fit the bill, name escapes me; back for an edit later perhaps.

i normally dont care about asthetics... but the new santa cruz bikes are FUUUGGGLLLY. im sorry, but i want to ride a bike, not a hump back whale. how about standover? the humpback design is absolutely horrible. i wonder why anyone would buy a santa cruz these days.

6.6 is too XC the HA is too steep. The SS is more like it, but too expensive right now.

the sx trail is probably what im going for. just gotta wait until i catch a used 08.

Whoa, 44 pound bottlerocket? You'd have to TRY to build something that heavy.
If you can find one, Turner Highlines are getting blown out right now. Might be an option. Standover might not work for you though.

You might want to look into the swoopy-tubed new designs like the Norco also.

Have you been on an SX yet? Seems the standover would be just as high as a BR (which I thought was not high at all).

The highlines seemed to have a pretty high standover. I am tall and the small was pretty tall. Atom, how about the transition that is made for girls, not a joke. Looks low and seems like it would work well for you. I cant believe a bottle rocket was that heavy. A friend had a blindside and it was pretty light and not too high a standover. Brooklyn also makes the mini link. If not the sx trail is a nice ride. You could always give CCB a call. I think he is still on the island.

Put them next to another bike, standover issue is illusion (well - VPFree was nutsoid, but I have a 39" inseam, so standover is rarely a concern for me) - and the new nomad lost the hump! Nomad is a bit goofy lookin, but it fuggin rox out on the trails. V10 and others are pretttttty IMO!

There are a lot of options out there, and like most - I have a preference -- but really, the banter about this one sucking, and that one ruling is now 99% preference so I say try whatever you can get your hands on!

Most of what comes to mind is espensive...

yep... 44lb BR. i was at racers edge and gerald was cool enough to have someone bring in a small for me to try out. we put it on his scale.... 44lbs. i could not stand flat-footed over it. i was on my toes and just standing over the TT. it was built with a 66, saints, DH tires, deemax wheels (i think).... everything else seemed pretty straight foward. i definelty saw some spots where you could shave some weight, but im guessing it would be hard to get it under 40. also, i couldnt f**king manual the thing. usually if i can manual a bike, i like it. i couldnt get the front end up on it. im thinking it was b/c of the 50mm stem, but i still dont think the 1/2" would have made it that much better.

the sx trail might be just as tall, but it has 7" of travel. i find that little more understandable. i def know its lighter by a few lbs. i rode a demo 7 or 8 at whistler and that thing had awesome standover clearance..so im hoping the sx trail is the same.

if not, it might be another racelink. i rode the best on that bike when i got it dialed...so i might be looking to duplicate my same setup. i think my racelink was like 41lbs or something.

i would rock a mini-link in a heart beat. that thin would be unreal... the problem is... they dont make em anymore and they arent easy to find. they make that sr6 and i cant afford something brand new.

or... i might go with a demo 7. a little too DH oriented for me, but if im going racelink, then i can go demo 7 too.

What about an Ironhorse 6 point or 7 point? RS has a good deal on those.

Also, it's tough to beat what you get for the money from Jamis. Their XAM looks promising.

Chumba EVO?
