Im going to run some races for the 2006 season and am looking at a couple places in Jersey and penn. ive ridden spring mount and am trying to get into contact with anyone that can help get the wheels rolling. any information like who owns it? who was running the races a few years back? where to get permits? any thing. this plan is still in the infancy but spring mount looks like the place. The racing venue would probly include primarly Downhill but a couple super D races and speed trials peeked my intrest and probly jump contest. So any info would be great.

Do it. I'd race at least 2 of them, maybe 3. Might be able to help you out too. That's a great place for Super D- you could have two races (DH and superd D), two entry fees, but you may be able to combine the start and/or finish points.

I may still have Buckman's contact info if you don't have it. PM me if you want more info.

Nat

DO IT! I would love to ride there, i never have. Wasn't Mt. Perk involved in that? I'd also be willing to help build/layout race courses and stuff.

yo man. I ride DH there with two other kids about every day I go out riding. I am about a 30 minute bike ride, and like a 10 minute car ride from the mountain. I know someone that could tell me the owners, and i think they were the ones that ran the races there a few years back. If the rumors are true, they cancalled the races because of an endangered species that lives on the mountain, but that sounds a lil bogus to me. If you were wanted to come up to the mountain in the spring/summer i would be glad to show you around it. The mountain already had DH and XC trails set up, and ran a DS course at one time..but they took it down. I dont know how you were go about getting permits unless you talked to the owner of the mountain and the township. hopefully i helped.

There is a protected bird that nest on the backside of the mountain throughout the summer. Race courses could only go on that side of the mountain during the fall. This is not why they don't have races there anymore... you can blame that on the Buckman's

yeah i know what you are talking about...but i dont understand it. unless i have my frontside and backside mixed up, all the good race trails are on the frontside of the mountain, with only one or two DH trails on the backside, both of which lead down to the Perkiomen Trail. My friends and I were thinking about trying to get races started there again, but at the least we will be building while we are there, which is basically every day we ride in the summer. anyone that wants to hook up for a ride there hit me up on aim or shoot me a pm.

Good luck dude. If you get it going, I'll show up and support you. The back side trails were some of the best, but there are some classics down the front where most of the races were held.

A few words of advice:

1. Don't expect much support from the Buckmans. They're assholes.

2. If you do make it as far as to create a race series and make new courses...don't make them too challenging. The biggest problem most everyone had with the mountain was that Jay would create courses that were tough to ride when it was dry, but anyone who knows ANYTHING about Spring knows that it's always wet. Which made many of the courses suicidal...but fun in a sick sorta way. Keep to fast and smooth, that way when they are wet, they'll be all the challenge you need.

3. Try to get freeride weekends available...even if that means practicing or freeriding on a Saturday and racing on a Sunday.

Like I said, best of luck to you. My friends and I have been pushing to the top of that hill for over 6 years now. It's eaten too many bike parts to count including an ACL. It's a love hate thing.

A few words of advice for you:

1. I guess that you have never worked with the Buckman's. They were very accomodating to our foolishness.

2. Crying or Very sad

3. Will be there at all of your scheduled events. How many will there be?
It's really a lot of work.

PS: Defaming the character of the Buckman's is surelly not going to get us anywhere.

Love ya like a brother, hate ya like my mother.

If one does not have the time to put ANY pictures on their website (even in the heart of winter), I can see where said person of one does not/did not have the time to run a race series:)

I guess what I'm trying to say is:

Damn I miss that "foolishness"!
