looking for a cheap beater to try the sport out. use to ride in high school way back but i still may need a refresher. looking for something low maintenance (prob a 2 stroke) and something 125cc and below. it would be cool to have a bike that would fit like a downhill bike.
any ideas?

Your best best is to jump on a ttr125. they are super dependable and simple 4 strokes that can be had for very cheap. These are also very popular to mod up to a pimped out 150 with tons of aftermarket parts (BBR etc). Real fun bikes.., decent enough power and small enough to throw around dh style.

I went through the whole play bike stage with a tt-r, and to put it simply, NOT WORTH IT!! get an 85 or 100 2smoker and youll be way better off.
The ttr is slow, and will always be unless your looking to pour money equivalent to that of a new 250 four stroke. It has extremely poor suspension compared to 80's even ten years ago (go figure, what most people do is put 10 year old or newer 80 suspension on them) and to upgrade it to anything acceptable can cost close to 1000 unless you have a loaner bike handy. BBR parts do make it better, but cost alot for what theyre doing. one thing this bike will always have and almost nothing can be done unless your planning on spending 5-8K on a bbr CR alu frame is HEAVINESS!! omg its as heavy as a 125 two stroke, and has 1/25 the power. hehe
dont get me wrong, TT-r's are a fun bike, really fun, but if you looking for even a hint of performance for under 1500, dont buy one. Do yourself a favor and buy a kx100, or a kx85 or if you can find a newer one, get a rm 85. Reason for KX is mainly that they use power valves, and honda and yami dont, which means its more of an aggressive rider only bike, not a play one. the Rms and Kx's are really fun, i ride my neighbor's kx all the time. If your interested in a full size bike my yz250f is for sale which may i add is extremely versatile both trails and track, and extremely fun.

i like the ttr idea they are so fun a friend of mine had one and it was one of the most fun bike i ever rode...you can just throw em around and play with em...maybe if you want a little more power go for a 225 unless you want to customize like Hcor said with bbr stuff
