yeah, it's a piece of hardware (along w/ the waawah pedal) which conjures up pictures of dirty hippies, endlessly noodling around on a 6 string adventure you'd typically need psychoactive elements to participate fully in, but damn if i didn't see a prime example of it put to good use last night.

headlining night 1 of Terrastock 5 was the Japanese collective Ghost, who take their cues from krautrock, ancient japanese folk, and general outsider rock vibe. their guitarist, michiro kurihara, put on quite a spectacle...he is/was also in the more straight-ahead psych frontal lobe assault that is White Heaven.

damn they were good. heading out for day 2 shortly, as soon as the babysitter arrives...

not as good, but had definite highlights. the main being six organs of admittance (ben chasny). if you like the side acoustic guitar inhabited by guys like john fahey, robbie basho and alan/rick bishop (sun city girls), you really can't go wrong w/ this serviing. indian-type ragas on a detuned 6 string. not yr peter paul and mary folk stuff. he enlisted his "neighbor" ethan to unleash some electric 6 string storm clouds here and there, a la j mascis.

dipsomaniacs were quite good as well, well executed 60s pop stuff. lucky bishops got a bit samey but had a couple of key moments, motorpsycho was dreadfully boring and seemed a better fit for a wank-fest.

greg weeks was really nice as well, kinda like a straightforwards The Tower Recordings/Matt Valentine bit. damon and naomi were good, esp the song called "the great wall" where kurihara unleashed some excellent guitar work once again. the full ghost ensemble played w/ them on the last 2 songs.

i was beat and headed out before Tom Rapp (ex-Pearls Before Swine) hit the stage. there's no way i'll make it to 12:45 to see Acid Mothers Temple tonight...

Where is AMT playing? I have one show of theirs and it's CRAZY. A friend of mine gave me that along with a few Bardo Pond shows, and the AMT show is wild. What's their deal?

This guy just recorded the "low-key" Lake Trout show in Annapolis. This show was EXCELLENT and I'll offer it to anyone who wants it when I get it in .SHN.

AMT played @ axis last night (boston). capped night 3 of terrastock, w/ kawabata pummeling his guitar a la pete townshend and then tossing the destroyed bits into the crowd (the most dangerous piece being the neck/head stock, the crowd parted like the red sea when that thing came fliying in).

excellent night, great sets from lockgroove, sonic youth, barbara manning and the go-luckys, kinksi, bardo pond, etc. kinkski in particular were f**king blinding. that first song they did was the highight of the entire festival for me.

i'll type more later if anyone wants me to. good weekend of music! Very Happy

I have a friend you really need to talk to. He seems to be in all the same stuff and has Mics/DAT and transfers them to SHN. He may have some stuff you'd enjoy.

yeah, i am always up for trading stuff, but warn yr friend that i don't have much live stuff. a guy i know setup shop last night and taped some of the stuff, i think he left after bevis frond, or maybe bardo pond, can't recall.

AMT was a lot of fun, a crazy set of guys (and one woman) and a lot of fun to watch.

i hadn't seen SY in a while either, and they were really on. jim o'rourke was a nice addition to the lineup.
