It's not the shutter speed that's off, it's the shutter response of the camera. Even on some $400-500 cameras there is a delay of up to a second from when the shutter release is pushed to when the shutter is actually triggered. This was a problem I experienced with an older camera of mine, and trust me I know how annoying it can be. There are a few things you can do to improve the speed, but they all are give and take solutions. (1) A faster speed memory card will help improve the number of pictures you can take in a row. (2) Reducing the quality of the pictures should improve the shutter response a bit, however it probably won't ever be instant. Or, of course, you could always exchange the camera and find one that has a better shutter response. I'd also check Olympus' website to see if they have come up with a firmware / other solution for the problem. Best of luck. -Stef

First, I (like Stef) assume that you are talking about shutter lag, not shutter speed. Shutter speed is how long the film plane/image sensor is exposed to light. Shutter lag is how long it takes the camera to take a pic after you fully depress the shutter release. now that that's out of the way....the only way to cut down on the lag with a point and shoot camera (film or digital) is to pre-focus before taking the pic. When you press the shutter release button the camera goes through a number of steps before taking the pic. These steps are usually 1)focus, 2)take a meter reading to determine exposure, 3)trip the shutter (take the pic), and 4)store the image to your memory card. You'll find that your shutter release button has two stages, one goes from fully up to halfway down, where you'll feel a slight stop resistance, and another when you finish pushing the button. When you do a half-press the camera will focus and take a meter reading, which means when you finish pressing the button all it has to do is actually take the pic and put it on the card. this can significantly cut down on the lag (or hide it anyway) but the downside is that you have to know where the subject of the photo is going to be at the time you want to take the photo.....
