Nikon today FINALLY announced the release date and price of the D2X. Looks to be Feb 25 in the US and with a MSRP of $6,300; estimated street price of $4900. Seeing how I need a new flash head at the least, and a new flash head, extra battery, and a lens or two at the most I must now seriously consider what the Big C has to offer me....or do I get the new flash and lenses and just keep using the D1x until it finally shits the bed, which will probably happen in the middle of an important shoot. decisions decisions.

had a Canfield Brothers rig roll through the studio for a review (appearing on another site Embarassed )....glad to finally be getting my studio skills down, but damn do I need 2x-4x the space to get the job done right Crying or Very sad

would be nice to pro-deal or bro-deal it, but I haven't found anyone yet that can give me the hookup. The sad truth is that unless you're the AP, a major newspaper, or a National Geographic staffer then you're paying full ticket for the thing.

it's not really a matter of shooting more, it's a matter of shooting what pays. I could cover the cost of the camera with probably 5 weddings shot solo, but I don't much like shooting weddings and I like "marketing" myself for them even less. I enjoy shooting action stuff like bikes and snowboards, but bike companies squeeze a nickle like they're trapped in the desert and it's going to give them a glass of water and the snowboard industry is verboten unless you're a washed up ex-pro rider.....

it'll take me probably two years to make back the cost of the body unless I do more weddings or start doing yearbook photos or some shit.....booo

extra battery,

No need for an extra battery really. The Li-ion battery is good for 2000+ frames at normal temps.

There is an amazing difference between the D1x and the D2x.

Supply is realy tight. I wasn't on any lists and had to surf/search/finagle for more than two days before I finally scored one.

I'm starting to shoot motorcross, car racing, and street bike racing. A LOT more money in those action sports. And it's fun!

ahahah...I knew deep in the back of my brain that you'd have one out of the first batch, even though I haven't "seen" you around much! so come on man, do tell....give us a quickie review and some samples Shocked is it enough to make Photo-John want to dump the big C?

I missed the first batch, aside from calling around to little out of the way shops I guess I'll have to wait until the tech that knows how to turn on the production line comes back from vacation Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

PJ remains wedded to the Big C.

Quickie review:

Wow, especially on big prints, in difficult lighting situations and the auto white balance is pretty amazing.

Big files though, especially shooting NEF + jpeg fine (saves on post batching work though). Around 125 images per 4 gb card.
