As it sits now:
and a little inside:
And a little progress:
Yet to do: wire gauges, make/install dash, finish spare mounts, mount seats/harnesses, hang bedsides, add interior gussets, mount shocks.
Hooray!

What kind of truck is that? What are your plans for it, a little more in depth then what you said? And is the truck in the first two pictures the same as the bottom two pictures?

No, not exactly. Highspeed is the intent. It's a 92 Ranger, all the same truck. As it sits now, Camburg extended beams 4.5" per side, trans. x-member radius arms, Eibach coils w/ 8"x2.5 Sway-A-Way shock, soon to be 14" Fox 2.5" coil over (Once the engine cage is complete). Stripped interior, soon to be full autometer and aluminum dash, circuit broken, fused, dual batteries. Rear: 16" 3-tube bypass Kings await it, Deaver 64" leaf pack, Camburg shackles.
The goal is to have it race ready by summer, just waiting on a Fuel Safe fuel cell and plumbing. It'll be raced in 1450.

Another perspective on the rear. The cell will sit right up against the cab and take up most of the rectangle-ish box thing

thats pretty cool. What kind of racing are you doing and what is 1450? Also what do you have for an engine going in that?

I was wondering the same thing about the engine... Are you going to mod out the 4.0 or drop a v8 in it?..
Also are you going to keep the body parts or go fiberglass? www.perrysfabnfiber.com has an awesome kit to convert a first gen ranger to an explorer front end, plus all the parts to just do a fiberglass upgrade..

It has the 4.0 in it with the 5spd, at least it does since I dropped it in. The front is all glass as it stands now, and the core support is soon to be removed. 1450 is the MDR "Unlimited" class. Basically you run anything that is caged and has a fuel cell. If this is your $600,000 "prerunner", that's fine. It's basically the SCORE equivalent of Sportsman. It's all just good old fashion desert racing.
Future motor plans? I dunno, a v8 is tempting, but what sort I don't know. If I were to go that route, it'd probably be a 350 for the sake of cheap, carb'd power. I've also been toying with the idea of building an aluminum block 4banger...

Holy shit man, thats EXACTLY what I want to do to my Ranger.
Hey quiksilver, is that a generation 1 Ranger with a front clip from a newer model? I've never seen the boxy body style with that grill.

87-89. I'm not diggin the suspension they have on there, but to each his own.
Update(pictures to come later): Bedsides are mounted, batteries relocated to rear, the area originally intended for the cell is now the bed, skinned in with aluminum. Shocks are mounted, it's strapped at about 15" of travel to the bump stop. Seats are in, harnesses are mounted, interior cagework is finished. Engine cage completed, shock hoops done, front is limited to 13" of very clean, useable travel. Waiting on my bead roller and wiring before I start my dash.
Destroy: you might want to look into dezertrangers.com if you're interested. What year do you have?

nice!!! awesome progress dude... I cant wait for this summer... Totally ripping apart my entire explorer, probably throwing on an Early Bronco solid axle up front (obviously will need some heavy mods to go from IFS to SA.) Im going more for the trail truck then a pre-runner
Destroy- did you read what I said?? lol... Thats a first gen ranger with a full fiberglass kit, and a 2nd gen explorer front end. I think it looks pretty sick.

Ahhh....missed that. Still man, that thing is SICK.
I've seen dezertrangers. Check out ifab.net for some engine mods. One of the best forums i've seen for rangers is www.therangerstation.com. One of the best tech manuals i've seen too. Covers EVERYTHING from brakes to susp to some simple mods.
Wow, that looks awesome. Keep up the hard work. I wish my man worked on cars like that, he is mechanically inclined but he never works on cars. Make sure you post pics when you are done!!
