um, actually they didn't screw up. including CF/SD/(MMC)/Memory Stick/whatever else slots would have been ugly and/or required apple to stock multiple models, each with one of the slots. and the device isn't aimed at pro photogs -- it doesn't read RAW, for instance. it will sell. i won't buy one.

I want to be able to have an MP3 player that I can store my photos on...
Thought about just getting a plain Ipod and the belkin adapter.

Besides, who really wants to view images on a 2.0" LCD? It is fine for checking histograms when it is the display on the back of your camera, but not for viewing high-res images....

Hence the reason I started looking at Ipods and getting the Belkin widgit that makes an Ipod read from a CF card

I know there are some other really good options out there...an aquaintance of mine has a device that will store .RAW, MP3, and DVD files and has a 4" LCD, but he is on an 11 day boat trip right now, and I can't remember who makes it!

If I recall correctly, yes, it does...but that is nice as it keeps the size down, but still has a useable screen....

anyway, I don't see much of a market for that thing. you have to pump your photos through iToons, which is exactly what I'd expect from that meglomaniac Jobs...
The FlashTrax is nice, a business partner has one and loves it. about the only use I can see for the little screen versions of portable storage devices is an easy way to make sure the photos actually go there. I have the old original digital wallet and the short term memory of a crack head, so it's fun when I navigate 4 levels down to check file names against ones I just checked on the camera 2mins before but forgot ....another good thing that little LCD ones are good for is trying to get business shooting golf tournaments that the uncle of the bride puts on while leaving your partner to get unimportant photos like the mother/father dance

hey, there's a market for ugly, and a market for sleek. ipods are bought because they are sleek. an uglypod would not be a good idea
