i'm having trouble getting the 5th element shock to hold air on my sgs world cup. i'm using a shock pump, but its like all the air escapes as i unscrew the valve on the pump.

am i doing something wrong, or do 5th elements take a special pump?

It could be the pump. but it sounds like the Air valve on the shock. I would check the valve to make sure its holding Air. Valves are easy to replace I would check with your local bike shop and have them check out the shock for you.

are you sure it isn't the pressure in the shock being released? This happens when you take a pump off. Check the pump w/ another shock and check the shock w/ another pump before you go thru the trouble of replacing parts, etc.

I'm halfway there ... i stopped at a bike shop on the way to attitash last saturday and borrowed their pump - no worries...

time to check out some more pumps ...

thanks a million guys - that 04 dh frame rocks. it seems to rail through the corners far better than my 02 - i think i can FEEL the extra width in the rear wheel and BB, or maybe its the shorter wheel base or slightlt changed geometry, but whatever it is, it makes for a far better ride.

Ha sweet! Glad to hear you are liking it. The wider BB is prolly more for the feel than the rear. The BB puts your feet wider apart and feels more stable thru fast corners and berms. The slacker, lower geometry also helps a bit in that dept.
