About a week ago the front brake on my friends SGS-Pro went out on him. The lever went all the way to the bar, no power. We assumed it was a problem with a bleed and he kept riding since he had the rear. I would have rebled them for him, but I'm more of a shimano XT hydro/magura guy and have no experience bleeding Hayes. Well he forgot to take it in to the shop last week, so we were DJing last night and all of the sudden brake fluid pours out from the rear lever and he loses his rear brake too.
I'm still assuming that this can be fixed by a rebleed, but for how long? He got lucky that they went out while just cruising around, and not at Plattekill or Bromont.
He got the bike brand new this spring and hasn't been riding much at all, hasn't done a thing to the brakes and he suddenly loses both of them with no warning? Seems strange to me. Anyway anyone have experience with this before? He got the bike from supergo, is it their poor job of assembly or a problem with all SGS bikes, or a problem with the HFX-9 lever bodies? I have no experience with Hayes since I run 8" XT hydros on both my bikes, so I would appreciate it if anyone has words of wisdom on what to expect from these brakes.

id say try bleeding but i think you have a hays problem, not a IH problem. im sure the IH guys will do what they can.

I'm thinking it must be an assembly issue or a hayes issue. I'm not saying its IH's fault at all. Its not a problem if it doesn't happen again. I'm just wondering if this is a common problem with these bikes because maybe a run of them were set up incorrectly?

------- id say to get ur bro riding , take it to a local shop that does hydro brakes. if you dont have a good shop to help you then do a search on those brakes. they have been may topics on these boards. hopefully you can find a answer. total assumption - the brakes come out of a box and get bolted on. i doubt they touch them internally. im sure todd or bruce will reply. sit tight homie.

Ok hayes problems... From the sounds of it you might have blown the master cilinder... A blead wont help you at this point. As ECZZ said Take it to a shop that know about hayes. They will rebuild the master cilinder on both brakes. If there is any question on if the parts are warranty call up hayes. They are good people and are always willing to help out.

Well the shop rebled the brakes and said they would be fine a couple weeks ago. Today they completely failed again at Killington. Looks like its time for new master cylinders I'm guessing.
