My girlfriend just bought a new SGS Team Freeride which she is really psyched about. I think the shock that is currently on it is probably too heavy for her. She's 5'10, 132 lbs, riding a medium frame. The current shock is 425#. I read another thread that suggested a formula of travel/stroke*weight which would yield: 7/2.5*132=369. And then probably a little lighter than that for the 5th Element, right? So maybe a 350# shock for her?
Any suggestions/guidance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott

Scott,
The SGS bikes are all roughly sprung for guys in the 180-200lb range. A 325lb will probably be right in her wheelhouse and give her some nice sag. I posted some set-up tips for the bikes over on mtbr Iron Horse forum a couple months back that might help you out. Also make sure you set up that Sherman pretty soft for her.

Thanks a lot for the info! One more thing - do you happen to know who should be responsible for swapping out that shop? Is it something that IronHorse does, or should the LBS do it, or does the bike just come with that weight shock and if you want a new one you're on your own?
Thanks again,
Scott

Scott.
Thats basicly the deal.
Check with your LBS they might be willing to help you out. Or give Progresive a call and see what they can do for you.
And truly a spring is not that much money.
