Anthing built on the lower property must be approved by Vermont's Act 250 process. It's our own land but it is Vermont law. If you build a shed in your own yard in VT you are required to obtain a permit.

You missed the boat... Killington was/is seriously considering seceeding from VT, and establishing themselves as an Island of NH to avoid excessive taxes and regulation...
i wasnt aware that was even possible... but yeah the taxes in vermont are insane and the laws make no sense at all. it was a pain in the ass to sell my house there and not worth it at all to buy another.... all power to them if they can pull it off

I agree with hcor, flow and variety. Whistler would deffinetly fit the catagory "all of the above". But sadly to say terrain and "natural ability" of the mountain is what will eventually decide the mountains success. on the east coast there is only one mountain that can fit that bill and thats Platti. Diablo is good, but flowy? I don't get that, and alot of experienced riders are getting bored of the trails at diablo especially since 2 of the best courses can not be riden anymore (until the us open)? I may be wrong but to me that shows you how much flexibility the mountain has in cutting new trails. I don't know if Mountain Creek is not allowing them to cut new lines, but allmost 90% of the trail network there has been there form before Diablo took over, years ago. I remember you used to have to gap the stream crossings on "Waterboy", now they put bridges over them. If you can't have the ability to go sick, you will not have come close to anything like whistler. To bad Plattikill has bad trail managment otherwise there is no mountain on the east coast that has the natural ability that plattti does, and the abilit to cut whatever f#$kin line you want!!! there is nothing fast and flowy about diablo, sorry for the blunt opinion but SKYLINE/ringwood has more flow than Mountain Creek(diablo), it only has a couple of trails and its free!! thanks for pointing me to the trails John(hcor) but i do wish they would open the us open and BMW at MC, or atleast cut some new lines down the steapest part of the mtn so there will be one freakin run with scary speed and flow and drops and jumps and and etc.... other moutnains with natural ability that would be sick would be WEST MTN & WHITEFACE(f#$kin HUDGE!!). I don't see MTN Snow fitting any of the profiles, but you never know.. Good luck to all the MTNs especially Diablo and Platti - Rockon. I might be unsatisfied with Mountain Creeks trail network, but I do like what the Diablo crew is doing overall. as far as managment everyone on the eastcoast should take advise on running a MTN from Diablo, these guys know whats going on, I just wish they were doing it at Plattikill instead!!

hey, jumping in a little late here, but here's what I'd like to see:
More advanced terrain. Plattekill (and now diablo) draws people because they can go fast, hit launches, rollers, doubles, etc. and be challenged. Mt Snow/Killington have no real challenging trails, and so the only way to make them challenging is to bring a smaller bike or go REALLY REALLY fast. Basically head out to Plattekill and Diablo, and esp. Whistler, and see what they're doing. None of the resorts in the northeast have the Terrain, Trails and Lodging. Plattekill has the terrain and the trails, but no resort or even lodging. MC has the trails and the lodging, but it doesn't have the vertical change or the steepness. Right now Snow has the Terrain and the Lodging, but the trails are way too easy. Model the trails after Whistler, and you'll have everybody on the east coast coming up for a week/weekend.
Oh yeah, and lift tickets somewhere between 25 and 30.
Thanks for coming here to ask for opinions, hope that you guys can really build mt snow up to be something that it always claimed it was, the mtn bike capital of the east.

just out of curiosity i've never been to pkill, but why dont they build more features etc, from what i've heard they have the terrain, but no features etc?

platt doesn't need features, they've got the sick terrain (drops, steeps, rolls, etc) so they don't need to build anything as far as stunts, ladders, bridges, etc. what they don't have is any type of lodging/resort/restaurants/etc, and they don't really need it for the ski season. It's a small family-style mtn and they really can't invest that kind of capital to turn it into a resort.

I think Mount Snow could be an awesome mountain. I'm not sure how many of you knuckle heads ski, but the North Face is STEEP as hell. The whole gladed area, I think it's called "trials" on the far left side of the North Face (looking down the mountain) could be some of the BEST f**king trails anywhere. All you have to do is build them correctly and have good maintance.
Most people here I agree with. You really need to spot out good challenging features on the mountain (huge rock drops, cliffs, etc.) and exploit them. If you're going to exist on twisty single track...GREAT! But at least make it interesting with nice berms and rolling jumps.
As far as the US Forrest service goes...f**k THEM! Nice work. I love it when I'm thrown off a mountain "for operating a vehicle off-road" (mountain bike) and then told that by riding on a pirate trail I'm causing erosion! TAKE A LOOK TO THE LEFT ASSHOLES!!! Do you see that 80 yard wide strip that a bulldozer leveled and logged called a ski trail!?!?!? They have a TON of nerve.
I think it's great that you're taking this stuff seriously and doing what you can to improve the mountain for mountain bikers. With land management issues and public land being pulled from bikers all over the place it's going to be important for mountains to take this source of revenue seriously. We're obviously don't going anywhere. This sport isn't going to die out. Mount Snow is perfectly located to become a premier destination. I only hope you keep the interests of ALL bikers in mind the same way you have for the winter crowd. Difficult trails are needed as well as easy ones.
Best of luck! Oh...and I'll see you at the brewery festival! That's the best thing your mountain has going for it right now!
