i just got back from the park- and here is a pessismistic review

overview- if you are a pretty good freerider and like tight techincal stuff
the park is for you.

for me i was slightly dissapointed- (it will probably change once it is ridden in so don't be discoraged) I like fast, flowy, smooth stuff. this was the opposite.
- every trail (exept for the big mountaincross corse) was srewn with rocks. I mean every inch! Not like boulder feild, but like pointy, hidden, wet, uber technical DEATH ROCKS. (it was very wet too.) I like rocks, but every inch was slow and techical. Unless, you have no fear and blast 50 mph through them it kind of sucks.
-drainage! they have issues with erosion and water flow.
lots of the trails were washed out and more death rocks were exposed. really need to work on that!
- cool stunts, bad landings. most of the stuff, you had to make a quick turn and braking, or you crashed into a tree
*_* as an intermeadiate free rider i had fun. if i was better i would have had more fun. everything is geared to intermeaiate and andvanced (mostly advanced) riders. there isn't crap for beginners. trhere are some smaller drops, but the landing area is small and sketchy.

REMEMBER- when i went it was terribly wet and slimy. the park opened the day i got there too. SO- go back once it has been ridden in some more and repairs have been made.

bravo, snoweshoe

f**k SNOWSHOE. I was to be leaving for there tonight for a few days of sick riding. But what do i find when i go to ride.snowshoemtn.com? i find out that they decided to close the mountain this week to do maintence? WHAT THE f**k? the days after OPENING day they decide to close the mountain? thats bullshit. ruined my summer. called them but the dumb bitch that answered didnt know what was going on. We had this trip planned out 2 months ago and i overnighted a f**king swingarm so that i could go on this trip. OH WELL FOR ME.

I went down to snowshoe excited as hell, I took my hardtail, yeah you read that right! So when we got there and got to the first trail I believe it was B I couldn’t believe how technical the trails between the stunts were. Personally I loved it. I thought that they would pussy out and create some really easy trails with a bunch of bridges. But no way, like posted above there was death rocks and roots that were slicker than anything ever. Especially if you took the B line later in the day. I consider myself a pretty advanced DH rider and I found the steep loose lines to be challenging as hell. One thing I can say, is that the freeride trails really aren’t that hardtail friendly. You can say “hardtail pride” all day but when it is all said and done it is more fun to ride them on a fully. Luckily my man Jeff was there from Kona (he reps a shop I used to work at) and he hooked me up with a Stinky demo for most of the day. In conclusion I give snowshoe 2 thumbs up, I have never had that much fun on my bike. And IMO once these fresh cut trails get beat in they wont be as slick and they will even rip more…GO CHECK IT OUT

Sorry, this is the lay of the natural terrain. Rocks are everywhere and there is no way around that. As the trail gets ridden more, more rocks pop up, it's just a fact of east coast riding. We consciously tried to route trails around nasty rock gardens, but there isn't much you can do. We are also at the mercy of a few sensitive areas were 2 endangered species make their homes, so we made the best of the terrain we had to work with.

-drainage! they have issues with erosion and water flow.
lots of the trails were washed out and more death rocks were exposed. really need to work on that!

What you have to remember here is the torrential downpours that the region has had for the last two weeks. In less than two weeks, we (Snowshoe) got over 7 inches of rain. Regardless of what drainage work we have done or could have done, nothing would have prevented mud and creeks that were present. All of those spots were dry before the rains, but that much rain will make anything and everything wet. Plus, Snowshoe is well known for mud/wet.

- cool stunts, bad landings. most of the stuff, you had to make a quick turn and braking, or you crashed into a tree

Bad landing?!?! Which stunts/drops are you talking about? Most all drops that are manmade set you down in a large straight section and many have good transitions. If it's the natural drops that your talking about, again there isn't much we can do. This is the first negative comment on the landing areas I have heard, but it's something we will take into consideration when building new stuff.

REMEMBER- when i went it was terribly wet and slimy. the park opened the day i got there too. SO- go back once it has been ridden in some more and repairs have been made.

Not trying to start any flame wars here, just answering some of your questions and concerns. The beginner trails are around the mountain x course, which was being worked on all weekend by the Racers Edge crew, hence most of that stuff was closed due to machinery being present and liability issues. The beginner stuff will be open this weekend and much more is on the way. We are building all summer long, so more advanced, intermediate, and beginner stuff is on the way.

Definitely come back when the weather is a bit more cooperative. Most of the trails are fairly dry in normal weather conditions, but the past couple of weeks has been anything but normal and you simply can't plan for that.

Thanks for coming and thanks for the comments (constructive criticism is appreciated and can only help us make things better!).

Coop,
I apologize for this inconvience, it should have been communicated better. We are closed for this week for a couple of reasons 1) maintainence 2) nobody is on the mountain (ie, guests) and 3) to allow us to get fully geared up for the national coming the following week. Again, this could have been better communicated to our guests via the internet and various advertising.

Hopefully you'll consider coming back to Snowshoe in the future when we are at full operation. Don't let this experience ruin a planned trip for you. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
